Basic Training: Level I

This fundamental course is ideal for students/professionals that are new to the biotechnology industry and want to learn the basics of biotechnology. Acentric Biotech & Research Laboratory (ABRL), Mohali started a Basic Biotech Industrial Training program to provide combination of theoretical knowledge and hands on practical industrial training to fresh B.Sc/B.Tech/ M.Sc./M.Tech biotechnology students/Working professionals.

All the experiments will include "PRACTICAL LECTURES, PRACTICAL WRITING and HANDS ON PRACTICAL"

(BLI-1) Microbiology:

  • Introduction to Microbiology, Basic Instruments used in Microbiology, Scope and Applications of microbiology,SOP of Instruments used in Microbiology fields,Isolation of normal microflora from human body,Counting of Bacterial Colony forming units on Agar plate via Colony Counter,Primary identification of microorganisms and simple stain,Isolation of pure bacterial culture using Streaking technique method,Transfer and maintenance of bacterial culture.
  • (BLI-2) Molecular Biology:

  • Introduction to Molecular Biology, Role of Basic Instruments used in Molecular Biology, Scope and Application of Molecular Biology,SOP of Intruments in Molecular Biology, Preparation of reagnets and buffers,Isolation of Genomic DNA from Papaya,Isolation of DNA using Silica Column Technique,Qualitative analysis of isolated DNA,Extraction of protein from cereals,Qualitative analysis of extracted Protein,.
  • (BLI-3) Food Technology:

  • Introduction to Food Biotechnology, Adulteration in food items, Scope of Food Biotechnology,Applications in Food Biotechnology,Determination of different types of adulteration in milk, Isolation of casein from milk,Determination of gluten content in wheat flour,Determination of caffeine in tea,Determination of carbohydrate content in food samples.
  • (BLI-4) Immunology:

  • Learn Basic concepts of Immunology, Introduction to Immune System, Role of Antigens and Antibodies, Scope and Applications of Immunology,Determination of ABO Blood group,Measurement of blood tonicity,Determination of ESR in blood, Preparation and analysis of Haemin crystals,Separation of plasma and serum in blood sample.
  • (BLI-5) Pharmaceutical Science (I):

  • Introduction to Pharmaceutical Science, Development of drugs and biologics,Explore the chemistry of drugs,Role of antibiotics and their effect on target disease, Scope and Applications in Pharmaceutical Science,Determination of Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) in Tablet,Determination of tablet hardnedd by Tablet Hardness Tester and Weight variation test,Analysis of aspirin tablets on a microscale, Determination of Citric acid in Tablets,Antibiotic Sensitivity test by Kirby Bauer Method.
  • (BLI-6) Plant Biotechnology

  • Introduction to Plant Biotechnology,Importance of Plant Biotechnology, Study the structure development and metabolism,Scope and Application of Plant Biotechnology, Microscopic view of plant structure,Determine Osmosis in living plant cell by Potato Osmoscope, Determine the process of plasmolysis in Onion cells, Separation of plant pigments by Paper Chromatography,Examine the presence of Phosphorus in Plant tissue.
  • (BLI-7) Environmental Science

  • Learn Basic concept of Enviromental Science,Understaning Environmental issues,Study about water pollution and it's control,Role of basic Instruments, Scope and Application of Environmental Science,Determine the water holding capacity of the soil,Determine the pH, Total dissolved soild and Total suspended solid in water,Estimation of Hard water and Soft water by EDTA method,Wastewater treatment by Jar Test,Estimation of chlorine in water sample.
  • (BLI-8) Bioinformatics:

  • Basic concept of Bioinformatics, Introduction to Bioinformatics tools,Study of structure and function of proteins,Scope and Application of Bioinformatics, Biological Databases with Reference to NCBI,Analysis of Protein sequence databases & annotation,Pairwise sequence alignment,Sequence similarity searching using BLAST, Multiple Sequence Alignment by Clustal Omega.

      The objective of this program is to provide hands-on-training in specific domains of Biotechnology to generate skilled manpower.

      (BLII-1) Fungi Microbiology:

    • Introduction to Fungi Microbiology, Basic Instruments used in Fungi Microbiology, Scope and Applications of Fungi Microbiology,SOP of Instruments used in Fungi Microbiology fields, Cultivation of air borne fungi on growth culture medium.,Examination of fungal structure by wet mount stain,Purification of fungal isolate by Slant Streak method, Maintenance and Preservation of fungal strain,Study of Morphology and General Properties of different groups of fungi.
    • (BLII-2) Food and Nutrition Science:

    • Introduction to Food and Nutrition Science, Basic Instruments used in Food and Nutrition Science, Scope and Applications of Food and Nutrition Science,SOP of Instruments used in Food and Nutrition Science, Assessment of raw milk quality by Methylene Blue Dye Reduction Test,Qualitative estimation of Class-II preservative present in food products,Evaluation of common adulterants in Butter/Ghee, Detection of Saccharine in beverage, Screening of some important nutraceuticals in food products
    • (BLII-3) Biochemistry:

    • Introduction to Biochemistry, Basic Instruments used in Biochemistry, Scope and Applications of Biochemistry,SOP of Instruments used in Biochemistry,Detect the presence of aromatic amino acids in a sample,Qualitative tests of cholesterol, Estimation of Free Fatty acids,Isolation of free fatty acids from soap,Mucic acid test for galactose.
    • (BLII-4) Poultry Science:

    • Introduction to Poultry Science, Basic Instruments used in Poultry Science, Scope and Applications of Poultry Science,SOP of Instruments used in Poultry Science, Analysis of moisture content in egg yolk, Extraction of Albumin protein from egg,Qualitative estimation of crude Albumin,Isolation of phospholipids from egg yolk, Adulteration of poultry feeds.
    • (BLII-5) Earth & Water Science:

    • Introduction to Earth & Water Science, Basic Instruments used in Earth & Water Science, Scope and Applications of Earth & Water Science,SOP of Instruments used in Earth & Water Science, Determination of Available Chlorine in Bleaching Powder,Determination of Alkalinity, Determination of Total Solids,Determination of Nitrate in Water,Determination of pH & electrical conductivity in soil
    • (BLII-6) Cell Biology:

    • Introduction to Cell Biology, Basic Instruments used in Cell Biology, Scope and Applications of Cell Biology,SOP of Instruments used in Cell Biology, Buccal smear – Identification of Barr Body, Estimation of amount of chlorophyll present in the leaf tissue,Isolation of plant cellular DNA,Experiment to observe temporary mount of a leaf peel to show stomata,Analysis of lignin in plant tissue by Wiesner Test.
    • (BLII-7) Green Biotechnology:

    • Introduction to Green Biotechnology, Basic Instruments used in Green Biotechnology, Scope and Applications of Green Biotechnology,SOP of Instruments used in Green Biotechnology, Preparation of herbal extract by Maceration & Decoction Techniqye,Screening of primary & secondary metabolites present in organic tea,To determine the buffering capacity of plant sap, To demonstrate the presence of starch histochemically,Quantitative estimation of Flavnoids.
    • (BLII-8) Pharmaceutical Science (II):

    • Introduction to Pharmaceutical Science, Development of drugs and biologics,Explore the chemistry of drugs,Role of antibiotics and their effect on target disease, Scope and Applications in Pharmaceutical Science,Presence of carboxylic group in different drugs,Determination of amount of acid neutralised by indigestion tablet, Antibiotic susceptibility test by Well Diffusion Method, Particle Analysis by Angle of Repose,To determine the solubility of solids at different temperature using pharmaceutical drug.
